Beatriz* was forced to flee Guatemala for the US with her infant son, seeking safety and to rejoin her mother. An LIRS partner organization contacted Beatriz’s mother and connected them at last. After a difficult journey, Beatriz is grateful for opportunities to study and be with family in safety. Still, Beatriz misses her grandmother, to whom she is very close. She wishes she could visit her grandmother in Guatemala and return to the United States to pursue her dreams, but as an undocumented immigrant, such a journey would likely be impossible.
At 16 years old, Beatriz has dreams for her future and for her son. She dreams of becoming a doctor and looks forward to the day when her son is old enough to attend school. She knows it will not be easy, but she is ready to work toward a career as a doctor, so she can help people and provide for her son as he grows up.
